From a realistic standpoint, New York has little to worry about for dozens of years from this issue. New York is a coastal city, but rising ocean levels won't pose much of a problem for the next few decades. Climatologists do not expect ocean levels to rise more than two feet by 2100, which should only have a fairly minor impact on the city during storm surges.
Summer heat waves will be more severe. Heat stroke deaths tend to claim older victims, though New York's population is so large this would not appreciably decrease life expectancy.
