The Buddha taught that ethical conduct is key to enlightenment and happiness for people and society. This was reflected in the Five precepts, which are:
1) avoid killing or harming living beings.
2) avoid stealing,
3) avoid sexual misconduct,
4) avoid lying
5) avoid alcohol and other intoxicating drugs.
If more people followed this advice, would not the world be a lot more ethical and happy?

Confucius, Jesus, Buddha, and Socrates were all influential philosophers and teachers who shaped the moral and ethical beliefs of their respective societies. They each spread teachings of compassion, wisdom, and ethical living, inspiring followers to seek truth and improve themselves and society.
The Ethical Humanist Society of the Triangle is the new name for the North Carolina Society for Ethical Culture. We recently changed our name to recognize that there is now another Ethical Society group in Asheville and to more clearly assert our identity as a humanist group. We remain a member of the American Ethical Union, the national organization of the Ethical Culture Movement whose members use various names such as Ethical Humanist Society, Ethical Culture Society, or Ethical Society.
