Saber toothed cats have no modern descendants.

Although modern cats and saber-toothed cats both belong to the family Felidae, modern cats are from the sub-families Pantherinae (like lions and tigers from the genus Panthera and clouded leopards from the genus Neofelis) and Felinae (like servals, lynxes, ocelots, cougars, cheetahs, and house cats) while all saber toothed cats were from the completely separate and now extinct sub-family Machairodontinae.

Cats did not evolve from sabertoothed tigers. Rather, sabertoothed cats evolved from other cats. Modern apes evolved from miocene apes, which were somewhat similar. Miocene apes evolved from some lemur-like primate, or perhaps something like a lorise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loris

Which is more powerful - tiger or lion?

A lot of people will say lion , however they are wrong because they are just stupid lion fans that know nothing about a tiger's advantages. The tiger will win because it is stronger! heavier, more agile, bigger, has longer canines, is a better fighter, is smarter, and is not lazy and waits for females to hunt. Tigers rule and lions are no sicken beans
