Windows 7 is several full generations newer, and is based on completely different internal programming architecture.
Windows ME is built upon version 4, which began with Windows 95. Windows ME was the end of this product line and was abandoned for a new generation of operating systems, built upon Windows NT. This includes Windows 2000 and XP, which were both based upon version 5 of the core system.

Windows Vista was once again a break from the past, being re-architectured for speed and the new advancements in technology available at the day. For example, Windows Vista used new display engines to leverage the power of Graphics Processing Units. Windows Vista began version 6 of the core OS.

Windows 7 is built upon this, and is version 6.1.

As far as differences go, the system can be used in much the same way, and requires basically no 'learning' to begin using the system. However, because of the underlying changes, most software that was created for Windows 95-ME will not work in Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or 7. Any software created in the past 10 years or so should work fine.

Windows ME and 2000, for example were like seasonal fashion outfits out. Their value was very limited before its use was dismissed.

Windows 98 was made in, well, 1998. It is one of the first operating systems to have the taskbar. Of course Windows 7 was just released last year in 2009. So Windows 98 was released 10 years before Windows 7. Therefore, in this fast moving tech world, Windows 7 is better than Windows 98. Reasons include...

Better multitasking,

More areo effects,

Better interface and design,

More program compatibility,

Faster performance,

More file formats,

Better software,

and much more...

Both still use DLL's and they all can get viruses. I would get a Mac instead.

Hope this helps! For more, go to jamesrealtech.com

There are numerous differences between Windows and Apple desktops. However, with the advent of Windows 8 the differences between it, and Windows 7 are almost as much as with Apple. The key is that Apple has no start button and uses a dock that can be positioned along the bottom or sides of the screen. Apple's desktop is also more active being able to actually store files rather than mostly shortcuts to files located elsewhere. The difference is subtle, but important.
