Ionic Bonds:

  1. Held together by electrostatic forces
  2. Arranged by lattice structure
  3. Generally high Melting Points
  4. Often readily soluble in water with limited solubility in other polar solvents
  5. Solutions contain solvatd ions that conduct electricity
  6. Molten ionic compounds (that do not decompose) conduct electrity
  7. Split into ions when dissolved in water
  8. Typically made from metals and non-metals
  9. Elements lose or gain electrons to bond

Covalent Bonds:

  1. Share electrons to bond
  2. Solids of non macro molecules held together by van der walls forces
  3. Low Melting Points (Except Macromolecules)
  4. Generally do not dissolve in water, but there are many exceptions!
  5. Typically formed by Non Metal-Non Metal

Covalent bonding involves the sharing of electrons. Ionic bonding is electrostatic attraction between positive and negative charged ions. Metallic bonding involves delocalisation of electrons into the so-called "sea of electrons"

What is one different between a metallic bond and a covalent bond?

Metalic bonds are in metals. Covalent bonds are in covalent compounds.

What are the differences between Ionic Covalen and Metallic bonds?

ionic bonds are attracted together by a force from oppositely charged ions covalent bonds are bound by shared electrons and all i know about metallic is that its a metal and a metal put together

What are chemical bonds that share electrons between atoms?

Covalent (molecular) bonds share electrons, while ionic bonds transfer electrons.

Do metallic bonds have weak forces?

Metallic bonds are not so strong as covalent and ionic bonds.

Does carbon form covalent bonds or metallic bonds?

As a nonmetal carbon forms covalent bonds.

What are two differences between the properties of the material that has metallic bonds and the material that's has covalent bonds?

Metals are electrically and thermally conductive, generally they are hard, dense, with high melting and boiling points etc.

What are the different types of chemical bonds?

Ionic bonds, Covalent bonds, Hydrogen bonds, Polar Covalent bonds, Non-Polar Covalent bonds, and Metallic bonds.

Why do covalent bonds not conduct elctricity?

Because covalent bonds are between elements without metallic properties, and in order for a bond to conduct electricity, the bond has to include two metals, AKA a metallic bond.
