MONOLITHIC IC

It is that the components such as semiconductor materials,passive components(resistor,capacitor,inductor and transformer) etc ,which is used in ic is fabricated within the single semiconductor(say silicon) wafer and there is no such shortages between the components and this have separate pn junctions. All the functions of the components are within the small silicon wafer and the technology used here to manufacture this ic is PLANAR TECHNOLOGY

HYBRID IC

It is that the components are connected individualy through the wires and the surrounded by the special polymer called EPOXY ,this is the technology used while comparing with the monolithic ic it is big in size.it contain the components all such used in the monolithic type

A monolithic IC is an integrated circuit that consists of active and passive devices like transistors, diodes, resistors or capacitors. It is then mounted on the surface of a single piece crystal semiconductor material, which is usually silicon based. A process to interconnect the single block monolith to the insulating layer is applied, which then produces a solid integral monolithic circuit containing millions of interconnected transistors.

Monolithic IC

A monolithic IC's entire circuit is constructed in a single piece of silicon. If the devices are interconnected by bonding wires dangling above the chip, it is no longer a monolithic-IC but a hybrid-IC.

A hybrid integrated circuit is a miniaturized electronic circuit made of individual devices, like semiconductor devices (transistors and diodes) and passive components (resistors, inductors, Transformers, and capacitors). It is often coated in epoxy for protection and then bonded to a substrate or printed circuit board. The interconnecting medium for hybrid integrated circuits is usually through thick film technology as this provides versatility over thin film. It also allows the circuit designer complete freedom in the choice of resistor value.

Hybrid IC

Then a technique to further improve integration was discovered by using a screen printed insulating dielectric to ensure connections between layers. This Multi-layer thick film technique is made only where required. The difference and advantage of hybrid circuits over monolithic integrated circuit is that the latter cannot use some important components in construction, which the former can.
