What are the different kinds of epic?

An epic is typically a genre of poetry, but nowadays it has been generalized to any work with the theme of grandeur and heroism. Here are some of the modern types of epic:

• Epic Fantasy - set in fantastic worlds, usually where magic works, and usually written in at least a trilogy spanning years
• Epic film or theatre - showing epic tales
• National epics - tales of national heroes and their struggles
• Female Epic - examining the way in which women authors have adapted the male tradition to express their own heroic visions

And, of course, the traditional Epic Poetry!
