THE ROLE OF THE POLICE IN SOCIETY IS... "IF A POLICE OFFICER HAS REASON TO BELIEVE THAT SOMEBODY HAS BROKEN THE LAW IN ANYWAY OR HAS PUT ANYBODY IN HARM THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO EITHER ARREST, OR HAND OVER A FINE, OR SHOOT =p ROFL hahahah!!! dude im like 13 years old i got no idea what im talking about.... but its and alright guess huh....

The fact that you wrote all this crap shows your lack of knowledge on the subject to begin with, and your stupidity to think that it was good enough to click the "Save" button or even try to answer it. The simple fact that your grammar isn't even the level of the 7th grade supports my previous statement. I think that their should be an age requirement to even put a post online.

Here is an answer that should be more helpful:

To begin with, an ideal set of police functions were identified by Goldstein (1977) a long time ago:

To prevent and control conduct widely recognized as threatening to life and property

To aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm, such as the victims of violent attack

To facilitate the movement of people and vehicles

To assist those who cannot care for themselves, the intoxicated, the addicted, the mentally ill, the physically disables, the old, and the young

To resolve conflict, whether it be between individuals, groups or individuals, or individuals and their government

To identify problems that have the potential for becoming more serious problems

To create and maintain a feeling of security in communities

I hope this helps.

The police have a lot of duties to fulfil everyday, Officers are expected to respond to a variety of situations that may arise while they are on duty. They complete tasks such as improving community relationships and regular door supervising. They do tasks from holding people in custody to providing the government with information and statistics. A police officer has a variety of jobs to accomplish, for example; crime investigation, licensing of pubs and clubs, referring victims of crime to support agencies and a lot of paper work. They are responsible for the safety of others and have to respond to emergency calls. People pay tax for their services so they can not fall short in what they do.

The police have a lot on their hands and have to make hard decisions on the spot. Being a police officer is not an easy job. The media portrays an average policeman to be in full time action, fighting against criminals and having a lot of car chases but this is just a minority of what they do. Most policemen's career is dedicated on making the designated community given area to be a safe and friendly environment. They have to complete a lot of paper work which is also not been conveyed through the media. They strive to keep the queens peace and according to West Yorkshires police mission statement, the purpose of there police force is to protect, help and reassure the community. By bringing the criminals to justice they are reassuring the public and the society in which they work in. This is by having the police working in collaboration and to do their best in getting their job done, they reduce the fear of crime and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
