There are no ADvantages. It's a violent life-style, and a dead end in every sense of the word.
The biggest Disadvantage is when you join the wrong gang for the wrong reasons,there are a large number of gangs that are not dead ends and do not promote the violent criminal lifestyle that the common street gangs promote.Some examples are the Guardian Angels which started out as a small gang and has now grew to have chapters in dozens of citys all across the US they are most famous for their dedication at protecting citizens in high crime areas where even the police seldom like to venture.
Another example is any one of the hundreds of gangs (or rather chapters as they say)across the US that are members of the Veterans Motorcycle Association which is an Association of Combat Veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces that promotes the Brotherhood of Veterans riding together and Helping other Veterans..
Some other forms of "gangs" are called Chapters, Associations, congregations, affiliations and groups...So as you see the term "gang" can apply to any group of people either in a positive or negative meaning.
