The only time breastfeeding could be possibly bad for a child is if the mother is not healthy. A breastfeeding mother can pass on some infections to her child thru nursing. Also if the the mother does not have a nutritionally sufficient diet she may not be able to give her baby enough milk to grow and thrive. However if that is her situation, it would be most likely that formula is not available either. But without doubt, for the vast majority of the world's population, there is no substitute for breastfeeding. Mothers, by nursing your children exclusively for the first six months of their lives and continuing to breastfeed them for the next six months or more will immeasurably enrich their lives for years and years.
P.S. The only one who really gets hurt by breastfeeding are the formula factories.

- Blood borne viruses such as hepatitis B or HIV and some medication can be passed on to your baby in breast milk.
- Some women find breastfeeding painful, stressful and tiring
- You are unable to measure the amount of milk your baby has consumed, this can be a disadvantage if your baby is having problems putting on weight.
- It can be difficult for a breastfeeding mother to leave her baby for more than a couple of hours as no one else can feed baby unless she leaves expressed milk.

I would beg to differ, at least concerning the last half of your answer. Breastfeeding is very good for a woman's health. This is most especially seen in the huge reduction in Breast cancer rates among women who have breastfeed their children for a cumulative time of 12 months or more. The health benefits extending to a nursing mother also include; post pregnancy weight loss, lower Diabetes rates, lower ovarian cancer rates and other health benefits. Nursing mothers also gain in the the area of emotional and mental health. So mothers as you consider how best to feed your new bundle of joy, breastfeeding not only is the best for your baby. It is the best for you. If giving your baby the best possible start in life is not reason enough to breastfeed, then do it for your own good health.

∙ 12y agoApart from you are not sure exactly how much the baby gets unless you use a pump, there are none. But if the mother takes something that is bad for the baby and it comes out in the breast milk it's bad.
