What are the disadvantages of lying?

The disadvantages of lying are giant. Chances are eventually your lie will be found out. I can only talk from personal experience: I've been lied to in relationships. As soon as I found out, my trust with that person was shattered. It eventually ruined our relationship. We were supposed to get married and have children and we'd been together for 4 years already. It still ruined us. Unless the lie outweighs the chance of losing that person (even if you think they'd never leave you), just tell the truth. They'll respect you more for being honest, and you won't break their trust by deceiving them.

You also won't have to sneak around and cover your lies or keep up with any back stories that you may forget longer down the road. Its always good to stick with what you know, and that usually means saying what actually happened.
