There are risks associated with all mining operations. People can be injured or killed mining. These risks must be well managed, but cannot be completely avoided. But the "big picture" as regards mining is usually one that has environmental impact as its focus. Mines, particularly the large open pit or strip mines, can scar the land and heavily impact the environment. The material processing facilities also threaten the environment. Having said that, environmental concerns make up much of the down side of mining and quarrying.

The negative effects of mining primarily outweigh the positive.

  • Mining consists of blowing up the sides of mountains, which disrupt ecosystems and the scenery.
  • Producing a single gold ring generates 20 tons of mine waste!
  • Many acres of forestry are also destroyed.
  • Mining can create dangerous situations for workers. (Entrapment, harmful gases, caving in, etc.)
  • Mining is non renewable. It also can emit harmful gases that contribute to ozone layer depletion.
  • Mining not only effects the land- it can effect the land, air, and water qualities.

If mining-people mine into the mine too far, the mine tunnels will get weak under ground-weight and crush onto the mining-peoples. That unfortunately makes them die. Miners also suck in the stuff they mine and store it in their lung, which makes them incapable to breathe. That will also make them die horrible death. Mining will stop eventually all over the place if people don't stop mining. The choice is yours, and I say no.
