Scurvy is the main one. It's not very common now, but it was a big problem back when sailors would be off at sea for months with no access to fresh fruits or vegetables.

This is a reputable source with more information on scurvy: <http://dermnetnz.org/systemic/scurvy.html>

Scurvy is common illness due to vitamin c deficiency. In fact sailor used to suck on limes to get the vitamin, they quickly became known as limeys.

Due to chronic scurvy micro lesions are formed in the arteries supplying blood to the heart. In order to prevent blood oozing out of the blood vessels our body produces lipoprotein (a) molecules. These are very similar to LDL cholesterol with additional apolipoprotein (a) attached to LDL particles. These lp(a) particles attach to the lesions formed thus forming an arterial plaque. As the plaque increases we feel symptoms of Heart diseases. Several studies indicate that lipoprotein (a) is an independent risk factor in Heart disease. It is well established that lp(a) is an emerging risk factor for heart disease. Thus, deficiency of vitamin c increases our cholesterol levels and causes heart diseases. Chronic vitamin c deficiency causes heart disease. It also causes various chronic diseases like cancer.

I am not too sure on what diseases you get, but, if you have a deficiency of Vitamin C, you are vulnerable to Bladder/Urinary tract infections. If these are not tended to soon enough, the condition could become permanent, and may result in bladder disease.

Treatment

In most cases, the condition is bacterial, and treated with antibiotics. Some other cases (less likely than bacterial) there is no bacteria, and has to be treated in other ways.

Ways to prevent/help condition

Drinking Cranberry juice or taking cranberry or vitamin C supplements daily.

One of the most recognizable ones is Scurvy. Everyone has heard of scurvy, and often associate it with pirates. However, most people don't know that it is caused by vitamin C deficiency.

People who don't get enough Vitamin C are also more susceptible to lung diseases and atherosclerosis.

Some people speculate that Vitamin C can help with healing infections, but there isn't any solid evidence to support this.
