From the Mayo Clinic:

Hemoglobin is the iron-rich protein in red blood cells that gives blood its red color. The normal range of hemoglobin is approximately 14 to 17 grams per deciliter for men and 12 to 16 grams per deciliter for women. A low hemoglobin count indicates a low red blood cell count (anemia). Anemia can have many causes, including: * Vitamin and iron deficiencies * Acute or chronic bleeding * Hormone deficiencies, such as thyroid hormone or testosterone * Chronic diseases, such as kidney failure, cancer and Crohn's disease * Autoimmune diseases, such as lupus * Side effect of certain medications, such as chemotherapy drugs Treatment depends on the underlying cause.

The result is the hypo chromic microcytic anaemia, in other words iron deficiency anaemia, characterized for small red blood cells with a low content of Iron. The delivery of oxygen to all of the cells of the body will be decreased and that's the reason it is called a Multi Systemic Disease. It will produce a wide variety of symptoms, most commonly pallor, weakness, tiredness, lack of interest in things, whitening of the hands palms and sclera, treatment is replacement or Iron, orally , by transfusion or by intramuscular injections. Investigating the cause of anaemia is really important.

What will happen if does not have the required levels of haemoglobin?

Hemoglobin is a general term that describes the molecule in erythrocytes that contains a heme group and iron. You also have what are called unstable hemoglobins which are usually genetic conditions were amino acid substitutions have taken place, one example is called Heinz bodies. Nevertheless, the primary function of hemoglobin is to transport oxygen to all body cells. All cells in the body must have a constant supply of oxygen to survive. When hemoglobin levels are low cells, tissues, and organs are deprived of needed oxygen. Depending on exactly how low the hemoglobin level is determines the degree of anoxia. A slight drop in hemoglobin is compensated for by the body and has no major adverse effects. However, a very low hemoglobin level can be quite serious and can lead to organ damage and failure. I noticed in your comments, "if it is not treated with iron and vitamins". Be advised that iron may or may not be needed. It depends on why the hemoglobin level is low. Iron supplements are not a cure all and furthermore they may be harmful, even toxic, if iron is not needed. Iron toxicity is a very serious situation. I suggest you consult with your physician to determine the exact cause of the low hemoglobin. Treatment depends on the nature of the problem.
