Best Answer

1. The Army - The Department of US Army

2. The Air Force - The Department of US Air Force

3. The Navy - The Department of Navy

4. The Marines - The Department of Navy, Office of the USMC

5. The Coast Guard - The US Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security
Some argue that the National Guard is also a branch of the US Military, however unless they are deployed, the National Guard is a part of each state's executive branch. This in no way minimizes the mission they perform.

The U.S. Armed Forces are made up of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. In civilian terms, the Marine Corps is part of the Navy, but its unique military leadership gives it its status as its own branch. The military is overseen by the Department of Defense and its efforts are coordinated with the help of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which includes a chairman and vice chairman and chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
