There were originally 12 clans or septs within the Shawnee tribe, but only 5 remained by the historic period - perhaps it is this remnant that you mean by "five sections". These are the 5 groups into which the historic Shawnee were divided: Chillicothe, Hathawekela, Kispokotha, Mequachake, and Piqua.
The Piqua/Peckuwe clan had responsibility for warfare and the training of warriors; the Mequachake/Meykujays are said to have responsibility for food and medicinal remedies, mainly of plant origin; the Hathawekela/Thawegilas and Chilicothe/Chalahgawthas had the responsibility for tribal government and dealings with other tribes. The Kispokotha clan seems to have no specific duties.
