The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Irelandhas no official capital city.

However, each of the U.K's home nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) have their own capital cities.

England's capital city is London. London is therefore de facto captial of the United Kingdom since England is the largest and most populous home nation.

The other capital cities are Edinburgh (the capital of Scotland), Cardiff (the capital of Wales), and Belfast (the capital of Northern Ireland).

However there are other anomalies - for instance Belfast is not the capital of the Island of Ireland - this remains as Dublin (which is the capital of the Republic of Ireland - a separate entity from the U.K).
