An erroneous question. There are four planes of existence below the physical plane that we humans inhabit. Directly below us is the realm of the Titans or demons, who are constantly engaged in conflict with each other. Below them is the realm of the Hungry Ghosts. These beings can occasionally breach into our realm. Below them is the realm of the Animals and below that is Hell or Niraya. Hell itself is actually divided up into many sub realms, at least 8 "hot" and 8 "cold" as well as at least one isolated realm depending on which text you may be reading from.

So they're are technically at least 16 hells in Buddhism.

Catholic theologians distinguish four meanings of the term "Hell":

1. Hell is the place of punishment for the damned. Hell is the destination for all those who die in mortal sin.

2. The Limbo of the Infants. This is the place where those who die in original sin alone and without personal mortal sin are confined and undergo some kind of punishment. It is the place for unbaptized infants.

3. the Limbo of the Fathers. This is where the souls of the just who died before Christ awaited their admission to heaven; for in the meantime heaven was closed against them in punishment for the sin of Adam.

4. Purgatory is the place where the just, who die in venial sin or who still owe a debt of temporal punishment for sin, are cleansed by suffering before their admission to heaven.
