A first person narrator is a person who is living the story. The story is going to be told from that person's point of view. This type is characterized by the use of words such as "I" or "we". This forces the reader to see it from that person's eyes. We don't learn anything until the narrator learns it.
Second person is a very rare type of narration. This is what you would see in a how-to type of writing. It is when the narrator speaks directly to the audience. Examples of this can be seen in the story A Series of Unfortunate Events. The author uses the word "you" to catagorize this type.
Third person contains two different types of narration:
Third person omniscent is a God-like character in the story. They use pronouns such as "he" or "they". This narrator watches over the story, and is not involved in the action. This allows the reader to see what every character is thinking, rather than just one person's thoughts.
Third person limited is the last type of narration. It is the same as before in the sense that this narrator is only an observer, rather than a character. Except in this case, they only allow you to see what is going on. They may be focused on one character's thoughts and actions, or just may not be able to tell you any thoughts, but only actions.
The four types of narrators are first-person, second-person, third-person limited, and third-person omniscient. First-person narrators are involved in the story, while second-person directly addresses the reader. Third-person limited follows one character's perspective closely, while third-person omniscient knows all characters' thoughts and feelings.
