Smooth er has many purposes depending on which type of cell they arein. In Muscle cells they storecalcium. For the most part they deal with the metabolic process.

What are 2 functions of the endoplasmic reticulum?

if it's the rough ER then it functions to transport protein but if its the smooth ER it functions as a site of lipid and steroid synthesis

Smooth ER function?

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER) primarily functions in lipid metabolism and detoxification of drugs and other harmful substances. It is also involved in the synthesis of steroid hormones.

How much smooth er is in a cell?

That depends on a cell. Since the smooth ER functions in detoxification and synthesis of lipid and carbohydrate, cells that are in livers will tend to have much more smooth ER concentration compared to a skin cell.

Smooth ER has several functions including regulating what?

It regulates calcium levels.

Describe the structures and functions of endoplasmic reticulumDescribe the structures and functions of endoplasmic reticulum?

Rough ER and Smooth ER.... Rough ER is covered in Ribosomes that produce proteins which are shipped to other parts of body ie; those that go to pancreas which will produce insulin and be released by pancreas. Smooth ER enzymes from smooth ER produce steroids, lipids, ells in ovaries and testes are covered in smooth er. Also covers the liver and creates a a enzyme that breaks down drugs in liver. Smooth ER also stores calcium for the body.

What structure synthesizes?

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER), particularly the smooth ER is responsible in the synthesis of lipids. It also functions as the storage for calcium ions.

What is the organelle that synthesizes lipids?

It is the smooth ER. They also produce lysosmes and peroxisomes

What is the differencebetween''smooth'' and ''rough'' endoplasnic reticulum?

The rough endoplasmic reticulum (reticulum plasmatic wrinkled?) and smooth endoplasmic reticulum (reticulum plasmatic smooth?) si that the rough ER is dotted by ribosomes (hence "rough") that synthesize protein into the ER. The smooth ER does not possess ribosomes and has different functions such as lipid synthesis and xenobiotic detoxification.

Which is healthier a endoplasmic reticulum that has ribosomes on it or one without?

The endoplasmic reticulum is divided into two regions, the rough ER and the smooth ER. Rough ER has ribosomes attached and is the site of protein synthesis. Smooth ER has no ribosomes and is responsible for lipid synthesis, calcium sequestration, drug detoxification and a variety of other functions. A cell will be severely impaired if either of the rough or the smooth ER is absent.

Is all endoplasmic reticulum the same?

All the endoplasmic reticulum is made up of is cisternae, which is a network of membranous tubules and sacs. But there are two different types, the smooth ER and the rough ER. The difference lies in the fact that the rough ER has ribosomes lining it and the smooth does not. This also changes the functions of the two types. The smooth ER has diverse metabolic functions, such as synthesizing lipids, detoxifying alcohols and drugs, as well as metabolizing carbohydrates. The rough ER creates secretory proteins, which are usually glycoproteins.

Do animals have smooth ER?

Yes, they do have smooth ER.

What the is difference between rough ER smooth ER?

Smooth ER, endoplasmic reticulum, does not have ribosomes, and Rough ER does.rough er is studded with ribosomes while smooth er is not.
