A characteristic of a time-sharing system is that the computer seen by the user programming in machine language differs from that on which the system is implemented. In fact, the user machine is defined by the combination of the time sharing hardware running in user mode and the software which controls input-output, deals with illegal actions which may be taken by a user's program, and provides various other services. If the hardware is arranged in such a way that calls on the system have the same form as the hardware instructions of the machine, then the distinction becomes irrelevant to the user; he simply programs a machine with an unusual and powerful instruction set which relieves him of many of the problems of conventional machine-language programming. In a time-sharing system that has been developed by and for the use of members of Project Genie at the University of California at Berkeley , the user machine has a number of interesting characteristics. The computer in this system is an SDS 930, a 24 bit, fixed-point machine with one index register, multi-level indirect addressing, a 14 bit address field, and 32 thousand words of 1.75 memory in two independent modules. Figure 1 shows the basic configuration of equipment. The memory is interleaved between the two modules so that processing and drum transfers may occur simultaneously. A detailed description of the various hardware modifications of the computer and their implications for the performance of the overall system has been given in a previous paper.

What are Hardware and software requirements for various operating systems?

The hardware requirements are what the Operating System designers have determined as the MINIMUM hardware to be able to run the Operating system. There are no minimum or suggested Software requirements for an operating system since the operating system IS the software.

What are the system requirements for the software?

System requirements are what the system (computer) needs for the software to work. These normally specify the least hardware you need for the program to work. This means that if you have a more fast computer, the software will work. Normally if you have not these requirements the software would tell you what you need to upgrade

What is doors an acronym for when used with SAP?

DOORS is the acronym for Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System. This is a software system that is used in a software/system development environment to track software and/or hardware requirements from inception (the requirements analysis, definition and specification phase) throughout the project life cycle. It is used to ensure that requirements get satisfied (implemented) and tested prior to project completion (delivery, acceptance, operations and maintenance phases). Benefits of system requirement specification?

A Systems Requirements document tells you what the software's hardware requirements are in order to: 1. have enough disk space/memory to run properly 2. is the right version (compatability is a must) 3. lists any other requirements If you have a computer or server, you need to know its hardware properties so you can review the software requirements before purchasing or installing. Especially if you are buying software from a "bargain" rack at a store, or from ebay, for instance. Older versions of software sell cheap, but there is a reason. Unless you have a computer with an Operating System that is compatible with that software, you just wasted your money.
