If computers could act independently of humans, then the scenarios depicted in the films 'War Games' and 'Terminator' could both actually occur. If you're not familiar with either plot... War Games involved a 'super computer' bringing the world to the brink of world war 3, by replacing the human 'safeguard' of the american missile arsenal. Terminator involved intelligent androids having one objective - to eliminate the human race.
