Jeremiah was poor

He was thrown into prison (chp 37)

He was thrown into a well (chp38)

He was taken to Egypt against his will (chp 43)

He was rejected by his neighbours (chp 11) by his family ( 12:6) by his friends (20:10) by his audience (26:8)

The book is a combination of history , poetry and biography.

ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE:

One of, if not THE most interesting facts of Jeremiah, is that "he never fulfilled God's commission for him in the pages of his book; fulfilling only the first half of it"... and that "he disappeared into history" before completing it by the end of his book. And perhaps the most interesting fact is that "few people seem to have noticed," or have made any comment about it throughout the centuries.

God's commission to Jeremiah: "Today I APPOINT YOU to STAND UP AGAINST THE NATIONS AND KINGDOMS. You are to UPROOT SOME and TEAR THEM DOWN, TO DESTROY and TO OVERTHROW them. You are to BUILD OTHERS UP and PLANT THEM." (Jer.1:10 NLT New Living Translation)

Scholars seem to recognize the first part of Jeremiah's commission being fulfilled in "the overthrow of Jerusalem and the House [Kingdom] of Judah" by Babylon; whereby the Jews were carried away in captivity... and Jeremiah and a small remnant of Jews were released by the king of Babylon. Jeremiah was allowed to do whatever he wanted to do, and go wherever he wanted to go.

They seem to understand about the "uprooting, tearing down and destruction" of the first part of the commission regarding the nation of Judah. They recognize that the "lineage of throne of David was cut off"... the king's sons killed, and the king himself had his eyes put out and carried away to Babylon where he later died in captivity.

They seem to recognize that "David's throne was never again restored," nor "has it ever returned to Jerusalem! " A disturbing fact in view of God's promise to Jeremiah [known in some quarters as the "Davidic Covenant,"] -- "...this is what the LORD says; 'DAVID WILL FOREVER HAVE A DESCENDANT SITTING ON THE THRONE OF ISRAEL.'" (Jer.33:17 NLT)

It's an interesting fact that Jeremiah DISAPPEARS at the end of his book into history with a "remnant" of freed people; among whom were Baruch, his scribe, and THE KING'S DAUGHTERS!

"So Jeremiah returned to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpahand lived in Judah with THE FEW WHO WERE STILL LEFT IN THE LAND. (Jer.40:6 NLT)

"Ishmael made captives of THE KING'S DAUGHTERS and the other people who had been left under Gedaliah's care in Mizpah..." (Jer.41:10 NLT)

So, of all the places where Jeremiah went after the Babylonian captivity of the Jews... he headed to MIZPAH, where THE KING'S DAUGHTERS were.

WHY? To gather the tools he needed to COMPLETE THE SECOND PART OF HIS COMMISSION -- THE KING'S DAUGHTERS! They were THE SEEDS with which he would be able to REBUILD and REPLANT DAVID'S THRONE IN ISRAEL, "the long-lost descendants of Joseph" and the other "lost tribes of the House of Israel" [see II Kings 17] that had been scattered by Assyria among the nations over a century before Jeremiah was born, and the Jew's Babylonian dispersal.

It's an astounding and interesting fact that no one seems to notice that Jeremiah disappears at the end of his book with the "king's daughters" to go "wherever he went" to "rebuild and replant DAVID'S PERPETUAL THRONE IN ISRAEL" [wherever it was that the descendants of Joseph had reestablished themselves by God's Grace by this time in Jeremiah's life]. The BROTHER-TRIBES of Ephraim and Manasseh, Joseph's two sons born to him in Egypt, upon whom Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel, had NAMED HIS NAME [see Gen.48:16].

The name "Israel" was never named on the Jews [Judah]... but upon Ephraim and Manasseh [Joseph]. And it was over "Israel" whom the "Davidic Covenant" was pronounced by God... not over the Jews. The Jews lost David's throne and all of his heirs under the first half of Jeremiah's commission.

But the interesting fact of Jeremiah's book is that he disappeared at its end with the king's daughters to replant David's throne IN ISRAEL, where the throne of David resides to this day, somewhere in the world, awaiting the return of Jesus Christ... the KING WHOSE THRONE IT IS, and from which He shall rule over all the earth for a thousand years:

"...the Government will rest on His shoulders... His ever expanding, Peaceful Government will never end. He will rule forever with Fairness and Justice from THE THRONE OF HIS ANCESTOR DAVID. The passionate COMMITMENT OF THE LORD Almighty will GUARANTEE THIS!" (Isa.9:6-7 NLT)

God "GUARANTEES" the existence of David's throne in perpetuity.

"He will be Great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the LORD God will GIVE HIM THE THRONE OF HIS ANCESTOR DAVID." (Luke 1:32 NLT)

Jesus Christ cannot inherit the throne of His ancestor David, unless THAT THRONE EXISTS SOMEWHERE ON EARTH, TODAY!

And it's a most interesting fact at the end of the book of Jeremiah, that he disappears with the king's daughters with the whole second half of his Divine Commission yet to be fulfilled. It's interesting that few people down through the centuries have bothered to notice this mysterious, yet, all-important fact.

All-important, in that, the Honor of and one's Faith in the Word of God [in this case, Jeremiah's inspired record] is at stake... God's Sovereignty over all that is rests on this one Promise.

It's interesting that God has provided for His promise regarding David's perpetual throne right under the blinded, deceived nose of the world and its historians... and that the throne of David was rebuilt and replanted in "Israel" [among the descendants of Joseph, on whom the name Israel was named; not the Jews, Judah]... and that it still, to this day, awaits Christ's return, to claim it for Himself.

Hint: think, London, England.
