It varies a lot by unit. For example, a doctor in an intensive care unit (ICU) can see less patients since they require a lot of care , research and time. A doctor assessing patients for military admission can see many more patients since they don't need to prescribe meds, follow progress, talk to the families, etc. It's just pass of fail. Just like that there are several types of units and they are all different including state laws for patient-doctor ratios.
