∙ 13y agoThere is the taskbar, which is normally located at the bottom of the screen and contains (respectively from right to left) the clock, active programs, open windows, quicklaunch icons, and the start button (which appears as either a button that says start or a windows symbol depending on the operating system you are using).
The rest of the screen not including the taskbar is the desktop background. This is where one can place files, shortcuts, and executable programs in the form of icons for quick and easy use. Three icons that usually appear on most windows desktops are 'My Computer,' 'My Documents,' and 'Recycle Bin.' Behind the icons can be placed the wallpaper, which is either a default image that came with the computer, or a saved image owned by the user.
