To help people in the catholic faith, To be a good example to people, To pray and be there for the people that need you to pray with them when they are sick, troubled or just in need of some advice. Most of all to love his people. There has been some bad priests in the past that didn't deserve to become priests! especially those who hurt and emotionally scarred people. A good priest loves people and would AND WILL not hurt them in any way.

Roman Catholic AnswerThere is only one main reason for becoming a Catholic priest and that is because God called you to it, that is the meaning of the word vocation, it comes from the Latin word "to call". The seminary, where you study to be a priest, lasts from six to eight years. Besides studying philosophy, theology, history, spirituality, etc., you are also discerning God's call. You will not know for sure if that call is real until you stand before the Bishop and he calls you forth for ordination. The Bishop is God's priest, so that is when you hear, for sure, God's "call" and your vocation is confirmed.

Roman Catholic AnswerThere is only one reason to become a priest, and that is to answer a call given you by God. Only God can give a man a vocation (which means calling) to the priesthood. If he gives you this, then the correct answer of course is to follow where He leads. A man has to discern whether God is calling him, or not, and he does this by prayer, by talking things over with the vocation director of his diocese (or religious order if he feels called to that), and in the seminary. Finally the day arrives when he is sure - the Bishop stands at the front of the Cathedral and calls him forward to be ordained - that is the Voice of Christ, and the sure call from God.

Can a Catholic Priest become a father to a child that was left to him in someones Will if they die?

One of the main reasons priests don't marry or have children is so they may devote themselves entirely to the Church. Most parents who wish to appoint a guardian of their minor children in case of their death, will ask the person they would like to appoint if they are willing to take on the job. A Catholic priest, if asked, would have to turn the parent down. If a parent named a Catholic priest as guardian without checking first, and then died, the priest would probably refer the matter to the archdiocese, who would contact the court (if in the U.S.) which handles cases involving minor children who need new guardians appointed.
