In a chemical sense diffusion is a result of the energy of the system (temperature). The movement of the molecules (or atoms) allow them to disperse themselves amongst like sized particles. Diffusion is a slow process compared to convection - in other words dye spreads slowly through still water, quickly through stirred water. Diffusion is one of the major component of entropy a major component of thermo-dynamics.

Diffusion is driven by the system seeking to come to thermodynamic equilibrium. At constant temperature, when a concentration gradient exists, the chemical potentials of the regions of differing concentrations will be different and molecules will seek to migrate to establish the lowest potential energy - in other words - they diffuse. Because it is the difference in chemical potential that drives the diffusion and chemical potential is a function of both temperature and concentration, this can actually be used to drive separation by diffusion by imposing a thermal gradient over a region. Likewise, temperature gradients can sometimes be temporarily established in systems that were initially isothermal when diffusion occurs.

What led to the diffusion of the major religions?

The diffusion of major religions was influenced by factors such as trade routes, conquests, migrations, missionaries, and cultural exchange. As societies interacted with each other, they shared beliefs and practices, which contributed to the spread of religions across different regions. Additionally, the appeal of these religions' teachings and principles played a significant role in attracting new followers.

How does low temperature affect diffusion?

I'm pretty sure it would slow down the rate of diffusion, because higher tempuratures increase the rate of diffusion.
