∙ 15y agoIn American history, the Kansas -Nebraska Act was passed to settle the question of whether American territories would enter the Union as slave states or free states. The result was that citizens would vote to determine the status of the newly formed states. Nebraska entered as a free state, and Kansas became an area of contention because if it did not enter as a slave state, the balance of power would be upset. "Bloody Kansas" became the scene of increased violence and corruption as settlers fought each other over whether or not the state would have more "free" votes or "slave" votes.
