The 95 theses was a list of 95 sentences that Luther offered to debate about. He would debate anyone on any particular sentence in the list. The list did not have an arrangement with chapter headings.
The theology of the list has been characterized as having three main emphases: only grace, only faith, and only scripture. The specific cause for the list was the doctrine: When a penny in the coffer rings, a soul from Purgatory springs.
To dispute:
- The sale of indulgences for the purpose of salvation.
- To stop nepotism.
- To stop the pluralism and the corruption of the church.

Martin Luthers role in the reformation was to force the church to let Humanism be allowed. Humanism is free-thinking. He wanted people to be able to be humanist and not have to follow the church. He also created the 95 theses and stapled it to the church door because he wanted to correct what he saw as the church's mistakes.
