Jesus tells His disciples they are to be (or become) perfect:- Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
This is impossible for a human being to do because our minds must be changed:-
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
This is done by God the Holy Spirit when you read the Scriptures (or the Word of God) with a willing and seeking heart:-
2Ti 3:14-17 ( LITV) But you keep on in what you learned and were assured of, knowing from whom you learned, [v. 15] and that from a babe you know the Holy Scriptures, those being able to make you wise to salvation through belief in Christ Jesus. [v. 16] All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, [v. 17] so that the man of God may be perfected, being fully furnished for every good work.
This is called "conversion" and it is not instant - it is a process which takes time, but Christians are to strive for and will ultimately reach perfection:-
2Co 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Eph 4:12-13 KJV For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [v. 13] Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
