Drag across a word with the mouse. Double click in the middle of a word. Put the cursor before a word and press Shift and the right arrow to select the word letter by letter. Put the cursor before a word and press Ctrl - Shift and the right arrow to select the word in one go.
When given the option to save the document you can change the document title by overwriting the default name given it. Or you can change the document title after saving by right clicking on the document icon and selecting the "Rename" option.
