samoans tend to be like westerners now, the old culture or Fa'a Samoa is dying due to mainland influence, but the only thing is, we never changed our big hearts and hospitallity to visitors, thus the way of laid back life is always present, maybe when the lost prince chowhoo tumupu will come home, we will have our way of life back.
Does your question relate to Samoa or American Samoa? Judging by the 1st persons answer, I think he/she is a bit confused. ANYWAY, I'll answer your question if it relates to Samoa. There are alot of modern changes in Samoa today. From mobile phone services to internet services and even a McDonalds restaurant! Yes alot of people say that the culture is dying, but I say, that a culture only succesfully fades away if the people let it do so. All throughout Savaii and Upolu there is an ABUNDANCE of traditional practices that are stil present! But yes, modernism is changing Samoa. And tourism (which we all know is economically "good" for the country) is booming because of the accessibility of Samoa to the outside world. Samoa does not and never has had a prince chowhoo... that must be an American Samoan thing.

American Samoa and Western Samoa (now known as Samoa).
it is called western Samoa because Samoa is divided into two parts, American Samoa and western Samoa. After colonialism came to Samoa, America took control of Eastern Samoa which adapted the name "American Samoa". While Germany (and later NZ) took control of Western Samoa, who then took on the name "Western Samoa". No called SAMOA. The nation dropped the "western" in 1997.
They are the same in that Samoans in American Samoa and Samoa (once Western Samoa) have the same heritage. However, American Samoa is a US territory while Samoa is an independent nation. So they are in effect two different countries.
