In developing countries, including Mainland China, aside from the most common modes of transport such as air, sea, rail, trucking, cars, trailers, pipelines, cables and so on, the small and medium sized enterprises also extensively use bicycles, three-wheeled tricycles and motorcycles to transport goods, especially in the hinterland or inland parts of China. They also share other public transport like passenger buses, private cars and vehicles to carry cargo too, and that too in large quantities. Couriers who trek on foot into the wilderness with their deliveries are also common, but sadly all these forms of transport modes used in logistics are largely neglected.

Transport time refers to the duration it takes for a product, person, or item to travel from one location to another. It includes the time spent in transit using various modes of transportation such as trucks, trains, ships, or planes. Reducing transport time is important for optimizing logistics and supply chain efficiency.
