There is no official list of popes, but the Annuario Pontificio, published every year by the Vatican, contains a list that is generally considered to be the most authoritative. Its list is the one given at this Wikipedia article.

The current pope, Benedict XVI, is listed as the 265th pontiff.

The link below is to the Catholic Encyclopedia. It lists all the popes, in order. If you click on the Pope's name, it will take you to an article about that Pope which will include the date of his election, and his real name.
