The Appalachians are further south starting with the Allegheny range in Pennsylvania and going South. Mount Marcy at 5,344 feet above sea level in the Adirondack Mountains of Essex County is the highest mountain in the state

The Adirondack Mountains, the Taconic Mountains, and the Alleghany Plateau. The Catskill Mountains are not actually mountains, and are considered part of the Alleghany Plateau.
