What are the names of the two reflexes which protect the airway of a conscious person
they protect your body because they react before you could ever realized you were in danger and make a conscious decision to react. for example, you pull your arm back if you touch something hot without thinking, so as to minimize the severity of your burn.
A right handed person has to send a signal from the right side of the brain to the left side before the signal is sent to the body. A left handed person gets the signal direcly on the left side of the brain, therby left handed person have slightly faster reflexes.
definatley. that's why they are involuntary
The most common cause of airway obstruction in any patient - supine or not - is the tongue. This is why the first maneuver that should be performed on a patient not breathing is the head-tilt/chin-lift or the jaw thrust. This is to help clear the tongue from the airway and may allow the person to breathe again.

The proper airway management technique is to first, sweep the mouth and check the airway for obstructions. Then position the person's head so that the airway is as open as possible to facilitate breathing.
If a person is unconcious, they most likely will not be in a position to keep their airway open, therefore, they will not be able to breathe and they will die. You must keep their airway open so they can breathe.
