Well, they're nonrenewable. The higher the demand the greater the risk of extinction of a certain nonrenewable resource. When we burn nonrenewable resources, like fossil fuels it creates usable fuel. This causes emission like everyone basically knows to disrupt the atmosphere. One of the greatest fears is that we have no cemented alternative for usable fuel other then nonrenewable resources. When we use it up, what will happen? Not every city is open to using alternatives like wind or solar energy.
