A trombone does not need valves to change pitch because it uses a slide to produce various notes. Along the slide there are seven positions and each position can hit several notes, depending on how well you play.
There are 7 slide positions on a trombone. There are, however, modifications to those 7 positions to create accidentals and when playing a slide.

If your flat (your pitch is low) then you push in on the tuning slide. If your sharp (your pitch is high) then you push out your tuning slide.
