It's important to remember that the "opposition" is the government. The seats in the government are divided between various party members, and some of one party will have more than others of other parties. Typically there are two main parties, and there will be a majority in control, and a minority opposition.
Bear in mind they are "opposed" to each other only in the sense of two muggers debating over whether to mug you on the way to work, or on the way back from work. There may be pros and cons to each viewpoint, but ultimately you are going to be mugged!
