There was many different techniques they used to determine whether they were a witch or not. - They bound their hands and feet and threw them into a river. If they floated, they were witch. If they sunk, they were proven innocent but drowned anyway. - They also used to push them off a cliff. They thought that if they were a witch, they would save themselves with spells. If they weren't then they would die.
Either way, if they were accused of being a witch, it never ended well.
Nowadays, there is no punishment for it. Its a religion that people can be part of and not fear the consequences. Witches can now be open and freely talk about their beliefs, practises and religion.
