The landscape between Dallas and San Antonio is gently rolling hills or flat, broken by streams which generally flow to the southeast. Much of it is farmland, with forested areas near water sources. The landscape is increasingly urbanized, however. Only one county on the direct route between Dallas and San Antonio is not currently part of a metropolitan area.
