My 11 year old daughter had been taking Strattera for a little more than 3 years. About 5 weeks ago she decided on her own, without discussing it with her father and I, to stop cold turkey taking her meds. She was taking 60mg of Strattera and a melatonin every night before bed. She was taking it at night because of the stomach aches. they were just to much to handle during the morning at school. After a few weeks of not taking the meds she confided in my Mother that she was not taking the Strattera anymore. I couldn't really tell any major differences. The only big difference was her insatiable appetite In the about 5 or 6 weeks she has been off the Strattera(taking it for ADHD) she has gained 10lbs. She says she is now sleeping through the night. Falling asleep quite easily too. It used to take her more than an hour even with the Melatonin.

Most children in clinical trials who experienced side effects were not bothered enough to stop taking Strattera. The most common side effects were upset stomach, decreased appetite, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, tiredness, and mood swings. As with all ADHD medications, growth should be monitored during treatment although height and weight data measured for up to 3 years indicates minimal, if any, long-term effects. In rare cases, Strattera can cause allergic reactions, such as swelling or hives, which can be serious. Your child should stop taking Strattera. Call your doctor or healthcare professional if your child develops any of these symptoms. Strattera has not been tested in children under 6 years of age. This is not a complete list of possible side effects. Contact your doctor or healthcare professional if your child develops any unusual symptoms.

I have been on strattera for a while and the only side effects I have experienced are minor nausea and a few headaches. I previously tried concerta and methalyn and those had a lot more side effects- which is why i changed to nonstimulant. I am happy with strattera and it's minor side effects.

Of course, drugs effect everyone differently, but I didn't experience any side effects. The medicine slowly wore off, and I was greeted with the ADHD symptoms I'd forgotten existed.

Is extreme sleepiness a side effect of Strattera and does it go away after a few days?

I Was sleeping everyday on my lunch hour while taking Strattera, It made me feel dopey but it did help a little with concentration issues strangely enough. Just switched to metatdate...hope it works better. N One of the side effects of Strattera is fatigue, but this is not considered a permanent side effect and should resolve itself in two or three weeks as your body becomes accustomed to the drug. When you increase your dose or go off Strattera for a day or more, the fatigue may kick back in as your body re-adjusts, but for most users, this side-effect eventually goes away. Every person is different, though, and if you are taking other drugs, there could be interactions with them that will cause unexpected side effects.

Does everyone who takes strattera have negative sexual side-effects?

yes It seems that many women have positive sexual side effects, but most men have negative side effects. It seems men over 40 do okay on it as well. My boyfriend is 27 and has no sex drive left at all. He has been off the medication for months, and we still haven't had any physical activity since before he went on the meds.

How long do Strattera side effects last?

I have been on Strattera for 5 months and I still have not gotten back to normal sexually. i have been on strattera for 8 months and i still have no sexual desire that i used to have. it sucks! I'm a 19 female in college, this is not okay but i need the strattera. I wouldn't know anything about the side effects of Strattera, but I would recommend to everyone out here taking it that adderall is a much better med for ADD. Even though it has slight sexual side effect while it's in your system, it wears off almost immediatly after it clears your system. I would recommend that to everyone out there having trouble with Strattera, but need a med for their ADD. I've only been taking Strattera about 4 days now and have noticed many of the same side effects mentioned on here - NO sex-drive, erectile problems, and urinary/ejaculatory problems. These are all confirmed by Lilly, the company that makes Strattera, in this document: http://pi.lilly.com/us/strattera-pi.pdf I hope this helps answer some questions. I'm going back to Cylert. >:-( I've been taking Strattera for about 3 months. I have encountered some/minimal sexual side effects. I've ejaculated without the sensation of ejaculation. When I poop it stimulates my prostate and at that time I ejaculate. It is small but it is seminal fluid none the less. I have never read this before in a post. I thought it should be included in at least one of them. I have been on Straterra since March of 2002...shortly after it came out. I have had problems with erections being soft or fading away, no ejaculations, leakage, sore tecticles... This has not lessened at all over time, in fact it has gotten worse. I have lost the drive for sex and the ability too. The problem has become intrusive in my life. I am a 45 year old male and on 80 Mg. per day. I take the medication in the morning, but have not noticed any decrease in the side effects as the day goes on. Same thing we me. Libido? Zero. Not good. I feel like what an 80 year old must feel like (well i imagine anyway). I'm actually trying to figure out what other ADD meds are available that don't have the same side effects.

Do the side effects from Wellbutrin wear off eventually?

Yes, the side effects from Wellbutrin will wear off eventually after being weaned off of it. If you are still taking it however, and the side effects are not improving after a week or so, or if the side effects are severe, you should check with your doctor to see if this is the right medication for you.

Does Strattera increase appetite?

When I first started Strattera (many YEARS ago)--my appetite took a nose-dive--and weight just melted off of me. (I liked that!). I lost over 15 pounds without changing anything else (such as activity level or other medications). However, after being on Straterra for three years---that nice side effect wore off....and the appetite came back--and so did the 15 pounds....I THINK that it effects each person differently.

What is the best way to wean off of Strattera?

If you have the capsule form you can cut it in half and take that, slowly come off of it because coming off of it all at once can cause health effects/withdrawals.I have not come off of Strattera and have no intention to, as it is working wonderfully for me, but I would like to say that since Strattera is not a stimulant, the side effects of stopping the medication should be minimal and there should be no withdrawal, as Strattera is not addictive.I have read reports of people stopping Strattera suddenly due to being unable to get the drug due to insurance or money, or to give themselves a creativity boost, or they simply didn't want to take a medication anymore and having no problems coming off of it.As for cutting the capsule in half, please don't do that. From the packaging:Avoid touching a broken STRATTERA capsule. Wash hands and surfaces that touched an open STRATTERA capsule. If any of the powder gets in you or your child's eyes, rinse them with water right away and call your doctor.
