If you have the capsule form you can cut it in half and take that, slowly come off of it because coming off of it all at once can cause health effects/withdrawals.

I have not come off of Strattera and have no intention to, as it is working wonderfully for me, but I would like to say that since Strattera is not a stimulant, the side effects of stopping the medication should be minimal and there should be no withdrawal, as Strattera is not addictive.

I have read reports of people stopping Strattera suddenly due to being unable to get the drug due to insurance or money, or to give themselves a creativity boost, or they simply didn't want to take a medication anymore and having no problems coming off of it.

As for cutting the capsule in half, please don't do that. From the packaging:

Avoid touching a broken STRATTERA capsule. Wash hands and surfaces that touched an open STRATTERA capsule. If any of the powder gets in you or your child's eyes, rinse them with water right away and call your doctor.

Just stop the medication. It lasts a long time in the system (up to 6 weeks) so it's not like you're stopping cold turkey. Wait a week at least before you restart another medication at a lower dose than usual.

I have an adopted son who has been with me for 7 wonderful months now. He was on Zoloft, Mertaziphine and Strattera. We took him off of the first two meds after a few months of being with us and he has been fine. Butt we have taken him off of strattera about two weeks ago and he is having increased headaches and naseua. He is 9 years old and has been on Strattera for 4 years. He seems to be a "normal" 9 year old without Strattera, his focus seems to be fine. I am also worried about weather or not I should have taken him off this cold turkey. He has always had bad headaches since he has been on this but I never thought they would get worse off it.

# Step 1 Consult with a doctor before discontinuing the Strattera medication. # Step 2 Review information from the drug manufacturer, which states that it is not necessary to taper off use of Strattera. The drug can be discontinued immediately at any time in consultation with a doctor. # Step 3 Be aware that ADHD symptoms may return in two to three days in the absence of any substitute treatment after discontinuing Strattera. # Step 4 Do not take a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) for at least two weeks after discontinuing Strattera, according to FDA recommendations. # Step 5 Talk to a physician if any symptoms or concerns arise after stopping Strattera.

What is the best way to wean off Celexa?

I just weaned myself off of Celexa. I was on 40mg a day. I cut the dose in half each week (40/20/10/5) and then stopped. I have had NO side effects or withdrawal symptoms. I actually feel BETTER now that I am off of it....another way is to wean off 60mg is 20mg each week till you reach twenty and stop taking it...or you can take ten for a week if the withdrawals bother you and then stop...I stopped at twenty and felt some withdrawals like head shocks and irritation for like 2-3 days then it went away...doctor said it was an ok way getting off it...

Do mood changes caused by Strattera diminish or disappear over time?

: You should not be experiencing these sorts of effects while taking Strattera. This is what is mentioned on the Black Box Warning for Strattera, including other changes in behavior such as irratibility and suicidal thoughts especially in children. But either way it is clear that you need to contact your doctor and you should dicontinue use of Strattera.

Why is it best to taper off medication?

It is always definitely a good idea to taper off of medication slowly, rather than just abruptly stop taking it, because you go through a period of withdrawal from the drug you were on. Your body kind of goes into shock, because it has grown used to having the drug in your system, so you feel a lot of ups and downs for a little while after you finally wean yourself all the way off of them.
