Before the Hebrew people had a method of lasting written material they had to orally pass on the teachings of God. Moses used the stone tablets so they would have a lasting written form of the ten commandments. Oral recitation can lead to errors that is why written teaching is better. Once they had the scriptures written down they painstakingly copied the scriptures letter and word for word. The people who did this were scribes. They wrote on long scrolls. Thankfully the Hebrew people were exceptionally good and reciting the teachings word for word correctly. Man can still do that. So now we are blessed with a great history and the teaching of God's revelation to mankind. The Orientals were good at oral teaching and later writing.

The original Biblical writings were in ancient Greek and were translated into Hebrew and other languages. There are some differences in the nuances of the words chosen. The King James Bible, which is the version most of us have, is a translation into English.

This can only be done by the study of other artefacts that survive from this period, as well as by other forms of communication used such as visual art, and codified markings or symbols that stood for words or meanings. The problems encountered are that whereas surviving written scripts can give a direct insight and explanation of the religions and practices used in them, be this in ancient forms of writing, symbolic writing such as hieroglyphics, or in combinations of shapes such as cuneiform script etc., the very ancient pre-written language era requires deduction on the part of archaeologists, anthropologists and historians in their study of ancient artefacts and the patterns in which they were laid out, to determine whether they had a religious significance or not, and if so, WHAT significance. It can take them many years to build up a reasonably accurate picture of what the religions centred around, and what kind of deities were worshipped, often involving the help of academics from other disciplines such as geography and astronomy. Sometimes an ancient site or location may have had more than one purpose, such as Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England, which was a site of worship but is also believed to have been built as a method of early astronomical calculation- others, such as the great stone heads of Easter Island, still have an obscure meaning, and no-one can yet be entirely sure what they were for- whether they were idols, headstones for the dead, or had a cultural non-religious significance. It's complicated by the fact that radio-carbon dating gives them an age that apparently pre-dates the time when Easter Island is known to have been inhabited, raising further questions about how they got there in the first place! Paintings in caves and on rocks, such as the Caves of Lascaux in France, can be helpful pointers in finding out about early primitive religions, as can ancient folk-stories that survive amongst nomadic tribespeople who were only encountered by Westerners comparatively recently in human history, such as the Australian aborigines. But it's not an easy task, and scholars have been known to devote their entire lives to unravelling such mysteries of humanity's ancient past.

What language issues do fifth grade have?

I'm thinking you intended to ask what language issues fifth graders have? It is quite a large question. Fifth graders could have reading problems -- these could be comprehension problems (problems with understanding), maybe dyslexia (processing the written word with great difficulty), or problems with reading fluency. They could have speech problems, like stuttering, where they have difficulty speaking. They can have timing problems, where the language sort of piles up for them which makes it hard for them to understand spoken language. They could have grammar or spelling or pronunciation problems. They could have writing problems -- maybe it is hard for them to make a sentence and write it. Maybe it is hard for them to form a complete thought and write it. There are many many variations of these language issues.
