One of the biggest issues that can happen in a file management system is the lack of support for duplicate data. An efficient FMS will have fail safes to this common issue. The problem in I.T. faced today is storage. Its constantly getting bigger and costs more money. With a proper FMS this can help get rid of this.

For example:

A user copies fileA to another location on the server and calls it fileB. Now you are stuck with 2 files that are exactly the same and taking up more space. A FMS than can handle duplicate data will simply reference the same file in both locations so there is only one copy of it taking up the space needed.
