The real question is what is good about a 6.0? Ive been a Ford diesel tech for about 4 years now and 6.0 are one of the most unreliable engines. I work in Wyoming, where almost all of the trucks are diesel. The 6.0 has numerous injector problems, EGR cooler problems, EGR problems, FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module), Head problems and various other problems. There are good 6.0s out there. I worked on one that had over 1 million miles on it and this was the first time it had ever been in a shop.
No, Chevrolet and GMC used to have the 6.2 litre Detroit Diesel V8 as an option in their C/K pickups. Ford has always used the Powerstroke diesels.
There have been injector problems, busted seals, and blown turbo problems. The best model year for the 6.0L Powerstroke engine would be the 2006 and 2007 model year. These were the years they got most of the problems worked out on the 6.0L Powerstroke engine.
Depends on which engine you have. Caterpillar, Cummins, and Powerstroke diesels were available for the F750 at various times, as well as Triton gas engines.
First, they'd have to make a diesel under the Triton name... Ford diesels are sold under the Powerstroke name, and, until the 6.7 Powerstroke came about, were rebadged Navistar International engines. The ESN should be on the left side of the block, on a plate.
Most people say that Cummins is the best diesel engine but not with the new 6.7L offered in Dodge Ram trucks. The Ford Powerstroke Diesels put out more power than the Cummins by 40 horsepower and 85 pound feet of torque. Also, the new 6.7L Cummins engine has been known to overheat, stall, and the turbos are blowing in them at around 30,000 to 40,000 miles. The Cummins can't idle for more than 6 minutes or it will overheat and shut off and you must take it to the dealer to get the problem fixed. Let's compare. 6.4L Powerstroke diesel does not overheat, does not stall, but there ARE turbo problems with them. But that is no problem with the new 2011 6.7L Powerstroke diesel. As for Duramax, they've always been behind in quality but not power. So I'd say, here in 2010, that Powerstroke is the BEST diesel engine available in a pickup truck.
International Truck and Engine Company makes the PowerStroke Diesel engine for Ford. They also made the 6.9L IDI engine and 7.3L IDI engine. They made the 6.9L IDI, 7.3L IDI, 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel, 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel, and 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel. Ford strayed away from International for 2011 because of many problems with the 6.0L and 6.4L. For 2011, Ford is making its own diesel engine, the 6.7L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8.
Well, it depends on what model year you have. At a minimum, you'll have the 5.4 litre 330 CUID SOHC V8, and you might have up to a 460 CUID big block V8 or 413 CUID V10, again depending on the model year. As far as diesels go, it again depends on the model year. There was the 6.7 litre Ford diesel, then the 6.0 and 7.3 litre Navistar diesels (marketed as the Ford Powerstroke) became available, then those ceased production, and were replaced with the 6.4 litre Navistar/Powerstroke.
The 6.0L Powerstroke diesel engine does put out good power but there are much more better engines that the 6.0L Powerstroke. Some problems consist of blown turbos, blown injectors, and broken seals. I know guys that have between 250,000 miles to 300,000 on their 6.0L Powerstrokes with minimal problems. My 6.0L is a 2007 model and right now it has 55,000 miles and I've had no problems yet. It's proven to be reliable to me so far.

Powerstroke
The 1994.5 and up 7.3 powerstroke DI turbo diesels came with 250 for the auto and 275 for the 5 speed. the numbers may be a bit higher but those were what Ford posted.
The 7.3L Powerstroke (93 to 03) - - - 295 horsepower The 6.0L Powerstroke (03 to 07) - - - 325 horsepower The 6.4L Powerstroke (08 to 10) - - - 350 horsepower The 6.7L Powerstroke (11 to ??) - - - 390 horsepower
