Having multiple graphics cards doesn't do a whole lot for an average user or gamers nowadays as many games still have issues with multi-GPU setups, not to mention the money and bandwidth you would have to spend on each one.
As for benefits, it would definitely benefit if you do find a multi-GPU supported game or application you like, or if you are doing a hardware passthrough to run Windows games on a virtual machine on a non-Windows host OS. Otherwise they're helpful in other computing tasks like video editing.
