The British North America Act, also known as the Constitution Act, 1867, officially made confederation in Canada a reality. This document united the original provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia into the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867. It outlined the structure of government and the distribution of powers between the federal and provincial governments. This act laid the foundation for the expansion of Canada and the inclusion of additional provinces and territories over time.

Canada is made up of three territories and three provinces.
Canada was allowed to establish a separate government from Britain (becoming a separate country rather than an extension of Britain) consisting of the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick- with provision made for the eventual admission into the Union of other parts of British North America. It specifically allowed the establishment of a judiciary in those provinces independent of Britain (the Governor General appointed justices in the rest of the provinces).
The maritimes are a subregion of Atlantic Canada. The three maritime provinces are; New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Atlantic Canada is made up of the three maritime provinces and Newfoundland and Labrador.
To commemorate the confederation on July 1, 1867.
Canada is not a state and does not include states- it is made up of provinces and territories.
