Many, MANY years in jail. The fine can be hundreds of thousands of $$$.

For most states yes. But for six states: Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, North Dakota, and South Dakota do not have felony provisions for cruelty to animals. The most you get is 1 year in jail and $1,000 to $2,000 and that is it. The maximum punishment is in Louisiana you have 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Most of wish to have a greater punishment. So its not many years in jail or hundreds of thousands of $$$.

I think that whatever you do to you're animal, that someone should get to the exact thing to you and see how you like it! And you just have to sit there and take it you can't fight back, and then I think you should go to jail for the rest of you're life with out bail! That is how bad I feel about animal cruelty!

There is no consistent answer. Some cases are a slap on the wrist by the courts, other result in small fines or brief periods in low risk jails. Oftenthe perpetrator is forbidden" to have pets. The problem is that the definition of animal cruelty is not well established. Slaughterhouses of then are unpleasant, the military ties bombs to dogs to infiltrate enemy sites and zoos are filled with animals in unusual conditions of hardship. All these are acceptable to society.
