The purpose of minimum wage legislation is to make sure employers will not pay workers too little money. The minimum wage is still too low (a worker can not support a family on minimum wage).

The sole benefit of MW legislation is to make legislators look good to voters. It is not good for employers, and it assures higher than necessary minority youth unemployment. Thousands of workers would accept jobs at rates below min wage to get a start, but employers can't offer that.
